Local service opportunities provide support and outreach, right here in Kirksville.

Mother Teresa said, “At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.’‘”

Serving others is important to us at the Newman Center. We have a Service Committee on the Newman Council that facilitate and organize service projects through our center.

Here, you can find local service opportunities and direction on how to get involved.

The Big Event

Each year, Truman State University’s Big Event is a huge day of service in Kirksville. Organized by the university, student groups and organizations sign up to participate in service projects, ranging from landscaping and repairs around local churches to helping hands in the library and beyond.

Newman Facilities

We can always use a hand around our center to keep it clean, in repair and ready to use for our own events or a rental. If you like to clean, organize or consider yourself a handy-man or woman, we could really use your gifts to help our center thrive. Please consider letting the Vice President Internal know that you are willing to help with projects around Newman, be them big or small!
